What is CNC Milling?
CNC milling, or computer numerical control milling, is a machining process which employs computerized controls and rotating multipoint cutting tools to progressively remove material from the workpiece and produce a custom-designed part or product. This process is suitable for machining a wide range of materials, such as metal, plastic, glass, and wood, and producing a variety of custom-designed parts and products.
The CNC milling process begins with the creation of a 2D or 3D CAD part design. Then the completed design is exported to a CNC-compatible file format and converted by CAM software into a CNC machine program.Once the CNC milling process is initiated, the machine begins rotating the cutting tool at speeds reaching up to thousands of RPM.
CNC milling is suitable for producing high accuracy, high tolerance parts in prototype, one-off, and small to medium production runs. While parts are typically produced with tolerances ranging between ± 0.001 mm. to ±0.005 mm, but some milling machines can achieve tolerances of up to and greater than ± 0.0005 mm. The versatility of the milling process allows it to be used in a wide range of industries and for a variety of part features and designs, including slots, chamfers, threads, and pockets. The most common CNC milling operations include:
Face milling
Plain milling
Angular milling
Form milling
What are the advantages of CNC Milling?
Flexible machining capability
CNC machine can be completely reprogrammed in a short amount of time to produce a completely different product. That way, they can quickly make one part into another.
High processing precision
digital template and automatic processing of CNC almost eliminate human error, and achieve precision within 1/1000 points. CNC machining tools are controlled by precisely programmed computer systems and are processed according to instructions in digital form without human intervention, thus eliminating operator errors.
High machining productivity
CNC machine tools can run 24/7 as needed. They only stop working when maintenance or repair is required.
The most advanced CNC milling technology, including 3-axis, 4-axis and 5-axis milling machines, can accurately, accurately and punctually manufacture high-quality parts, which can meet the strict requirements of a wide range of industries, especially the aerospace and medical industries.
Why choose our CNC Milling?
Our CNC milling process produces custom prototypes and end-use production parts in as fast as 1 day. We use a CNC equipment with live tooling, so it features like axial and radial holes, flats, grooves and slots can be machined.
CNC milling design guidelines will help you understand capabilities and limitations.
Now, we offer economy lead time options for CNC machining projects that are less time-sensitive and more cost-competitive.
